What is involvement?

Involvement means that people with diabetes, those at risk, and people close to them have the opportunity to influence the planning, delivery and evaluation of services as well as being partners in decisions about their own care and treatment.

What are guidelines for involving people with lived experience?

The involvement guidelines are a set of principles and actions that specify how healthcare professionals and NHS decision makers can meaningfully involve people with lived experience to inform and improve services. They apply across the NHS diabetes programme in the North West and North East & Yorkshire.

How were they created?

The guidelines are the result of contributions from people with lived experience, healthcare professionals and NHS decision makers in the Northern region working together to agree on what is important to them through a number of engagement events including workshops and focus groups. We collated the outputs of these to produce this set of guidelines.

Who can give their feedback?

Everyone. We’d especially like to hear from people who live or work in the Northern region – this includes the North West and the North East & Yorkshire. If you are affected by diabetes (directly or indirectly) or work in a diabetes related role then we’d really like your feedback.

If you have any questions about the guidelines, how it was developed or the feedback process, please get in touch at involvement@diabetes.org.uk
