The Clinical Champions Programme

The Clinical Champions programme won the Gold International Excellence in Practice Award.

 


 



We will be updating our webpage to include details of the 2024 Clinical Champions programme very soon.  Recruitment will open in January 2024 (date to be confirmed) and you can still Join our Expression of Interest list to be notified when recruitment opens

Clinical Champions are people working in healthcare who are committed to improving diabetes care. The programme provides in depth support to help Clinical Champions turn their potential into real change.

Clinical Champions take part in a 19-month development programme, where they learn about systems leadership, influencing change, and benefit from peer support and peer learning. At the same time, they are supported in their work to improve and transform diabetes care in their local areas, regionally, and nationally.

Who is the programme for? 

  • Clinicians working in any aspect of diabetes care
  • Professionals working within health systems, focusing on diabetes care

What to expect from the programme

You will take part in individual, one to one, and group work processes, as well as learn a variety of tools and methods to:

  • Further raise your awareness of yourself, your leadership style and your impact on others
  • Build resilience in yourself and others
  • Understand the role you have in your health system
  • Increase your capacity for making and driving forward sustainable change within diabetes care
  • Learn tools and methods to forge reciprocal relationships and lead effective, participative, and compassionate team cultures
  • Understand how to transform diabetes care through the power of systems leadership

What it means to be a Clinical Champion

Time commitment 

  • You will gather with your fellow Champions for three residential sessions (each will last 1.5 to 2.5 days)
  • You will meet online as a group in a Welcome Session and four other times lasting approximately four hours each
  • You will receive optional one to one coaching conversations
  • You will be sent pre-work for each module which could include reading an article of completing a short task
  • You will be expected to engage in applying and reflecting on your learning outside of the programme

Group size

  • We limit cohorts to a maximum of 20 Champions
  • We will recruit two cohorts running at the same time
