We know that there will be a general election in the next 15 months. This is our opportunity to ensure that the next government transforms diabetes care and prevention to tackle health inequality, reduce pressure on the NHS and most importantly, improve lives.
What are we calling for?
Diabetes shouldn’t prevent people from living a long and healthy life. But right now, that’s the reality for far too many.
It’s a constant juggling act. Balancing blood sugars, taking medications and constantly planning ahead. Living with the knowledge that without the right care and support you face complications like heart attacks, sight loss and strokes. All of which could have a devastating impact on your future health.
It doesn’t have to be like this.
Access to technology, regular health checks and emotional and psychological support can all help ensure more people living with diabetes can lead longer, happier, and healthier lives. And by creating communities that promote health and supporting those most at risk, we can also prevent millions of people from developing type 2 or gestational diabetes.
What do we want the government to do?
1. Prevent type 2 and gestational diabetes.
Create communities that promote our health to reduce the future harm from diabetes.
2. Support everyone with diabetes to live well.
Make sure everyone with diabetes has the care, tech and mental health support they need.
3. Innovate, invest and support the NHS.
Support the NHS to meet the increasingly complex needs of people with long-term conditions.
