Our 'Diabetes and Me' event brought people living with diabetes together this month to offer support and information across South Yorkshire.
There might have been snow on the ground, but a warm welcome awaited those who attended our Diabetes & Me event held at the AESSEAL New York Stadium – home of Rotherham United FC.
A programme of talks and activity kept attendees busy as they heard from expert guest speakers and were also shown some simple and effective exercise routines.
Workshops included sessions on eating well from diabetes dietitian Dania Mughal, and the help provided by community pharmacies, from pharmacist Jamie Verhulst.
Sessions on our Together Type 1 youth programme, emotional wellbeing and what care processes to expect when diagnosed were all delivered by members of our North team.Â
A room was also given over for Rotherham United’s Academy Sports Scientist James Ahern to run through some exercise techniques and how they can be adapted for the home.
Hannah Morrow, our Volunteer Outreach Partnership Officer who put the event together, said:
"We were very pleased with the turnout on what was a difficult day weather-wise, especially for those coming by public transport. Hopefully everyone left with plenty of useful information and good advice which will help them in the future.
Thanks to all those who ran the workshops sessions, the stadium staff for being so accommodating and our team and volunteers for supporting the event so well."
